Instead of feeling weak and useless, the First Chapter is a nostalgic set full of cards that were once heavy hitters, but in their old age have retired into more comforting, but still powerful, options for your decks.
The end result is that rather than having 37 lands in my Commander decks, in a post-MDFC world, I generally have 3132 "real" (non-MDFC) lands, but thanks to the eight or nine MDFCs, the total number of lands in my decks actually increases to 40 or 41
