The Lorcana Gateway set is an excellent opportunity to dip a toe into Lorcana, providing two decent decks for players to fiddle around with by exchanging decks or simply swapping Ink colours between the two, housing it all in a compact box with a good quality board and tokens to boot
While it is a good source of card draw, and it works thematically, it might be worth just replacing the card with a cheaper extort card like Blind Obedience and saving yourself about $50
The low number of creature cards in the deck is immediately obvious
With cards like Hellrider kicking out other recent four-drops like Moltensteel Dragon (which is actually a four-drop) and red getting more curve-toppers like Thundermaw Hellkite and Zealous Conscripts, RPTS is another card that was better years ago as it was a curve-topper that could be supplemented by another three or four mana spell at the top of the curve when you alpha striked
The Final Fantasy versions dont quite have the statlines to dominate developed boards, but they still give every deck a reasonable late-game punch basically for free while reducing the rate of mana and color screw
Weve seen freeze effects like this before, whether on cards like Time of Ice, or through stun counters via cards like Mjlnir, Storm Hammer
