The play pattern here is casting it on the back half, moving its counters to another artifact creature, then converting it into Blaster, Combat DJ, who can then pick up extra +1/+1 counters and flip to move them around again
Gadwick's triggered ability won't trigger when you cast it because it's not on the battlefield yet
