EOT you get a free +1/+1 counter on it if you descended, and with trample, that should win pretty quickly as you focus on growing this for a win in the Red zone or to finish off wounded players
it does play better in a value deck, where you are focusing more on building board state and rebuying cool creatures and effects with it
For punctual removal, we have Infernal Grasp, and in case you are the target of a massive attack, Aetherize will solve your problems
That said, Rampaging Ferocidon is now just another three-drop in a sea of good red three-drops, and you could just as easily end up wanting Goblin Rabblemaster, Goblin Chainwhirler, or no three-drops at all depending on how you build your red decks
For new players, this certainly looks exactly like drawing cards, but you're not drawing cards unless the effect literally says draw. Narset, Parter of Veils is a good example of this difference
