When you have a strong effect on a smaller creature, you get to load it up with +1/+1 counters, Auras, or Equipment cards, and benefit from that Protection

Dingus Staff and and Burning Sands further punishes the opponent for Survivors dying on their watch

Swordsoul Emergence becomes even stronger when the player controls a Synchro Monster, gives players access to any Wyrm Monster in the deck, including the oppressively strong Archnemeses Protos which is impervious to effect destruction and has a built-in floodgate effect

They are, however, weak to Fighting type Pokemon though, in my experience of both casual and tournament play, Fighting types are fielded more rarely than other Pokemon (admittedly, that doesnt seem to be the case in general, however!)
