Yu-Gi-Oh avoids this problem entirely by seemingly never even referring to their previous protagonists
A 2/3 Vigilance is an acceptable creature (that gets quite good with a +1/+1 counter) and its not too hard to get a cards worth of value out of an extra 2/1
That being said, if youre in the market for a copy or want to sit on one for a long-term hold, Id get it here
