It later opened some space for designers to get into with legendary creatures

The biggest downside of the card is that its slightly hard to cast, but between Ancient Ziggurat, Aether Vial, Noble Hierarch, and just naming Wizard with Cavern of Souls / Unclaimed Territory, Ive found that downside to be manageable
