While it used to be the case that you needed to run way more Basic Plains to enable it, nowadays with Edge of Eternities Commander completing the tango and bicycle lands for Boros, and Murders at Karlov Manor giving us the fantastic Surveil lands, its never been easier to assemble a strong manabase with access to more nonbasic Plains
As for the cards themselves, the design is amazing
The ability is essentially a tweaked cascade, but excludes non-permanents, doesnt care about CMC, and gives you the choice of putting it in your hand instead (for the sake of mutating)
The demand is usually low for random crimps, but once it hits a card people collect, like a Lightning Bolt or something, the very meager supply of any given card will kick into play full force
