Its first ability is so absurdly powerful that it makes cramming a deck full of mediocre Bird cards an attractive proposition, which is pretty impressive in and of itself
The fact that you can recall The Locust God to your hand rather than the command zone upon death is a nice way to get around the commander tax, and ensures that your opponents will have difficulty dealing with this forsaken deity permanently
