Wizards of the Coast is doing this in order to wring the last few drops of value from the Magic Online player base while simultaneously dissuading people from investing in digital cards right now

While my personal feelings on this aren't that strong (maybe because I don't play that much paper Magic ), I certainly see how the 8 Whack player has the right to be angry and feel like they were robbed by someone who was cheating
