At this point, Magic almost seems too big to fail (which is probably a good thing, considering some of the cards Wizards has printed and decisions it has made over the past couple of years), but this certainly wasn't the case in 1996
My games swung nicely between building up cards before sending some at my opponent and using others to tick up my lore - or doubling down on one or the other as needed
Often you see Birgi at the helm of a Mono-Red Storm or spells matter Commander since you generate mana each time you cast a spell
If everybody thought this way, even marginal older set foils like Genesis would be worth $40-$50, much like how there are plenty of expensive Reserved List cards that are close to unplayable
