Alectryonia, Prepped Oyster Fossils Fossils The World Atlas of HoneyOyster fossil of the species Alectryonia. With its distinctive zig zag shell edge, it is thought that like modern oysters, Alectryonia would have lived in shallow coastal waters and been a filter feeder. The angled joints between the oyster's two shells worked as a great defense against debris entering the oyster and damaging its soft body.
