Mephistopheles Polychrome Sculpture after Jacques-Louis Gautier art 5cm tall x 14cm wideA large French polychrome plaster figure of Mephistopheles after a bronze by French sculptor Jacques Louis Gautier from the mid 19th Century. This particular figure dates from the early 20th Century circa 1930. Gautier studied under Francois Rude, until making his Salon debut in 1850. Mephistopheles was first sculpted in 1853 with edits by the Duplan and Salles foundry, and was showcased at the 1855 Exposition Universelle, where a cast was purchased
